1 Hour Challenge – Simon Says Stamp August Card Kit

Hello friends! Apologies for the absence here. Life is crazy to say the least. I can finally share some news that we are expecting baby #2 in February. We had fertility issues this time around as I found out I have Polycystic Ovaries. It was a hard road and we are thrilled to have another little one on the way. The first trimester was tough and hasn’t let up much yet – still exhausted and sick – and it is much harder when you are chasing around a 2 year old! So card making, scrapbooking and most of my other chores around the house have taken a major backseat!

But, today I am here to share another instalment of the 1 hour challenge – this time I’m working with the bright & cheerful Simon Says Stamp August card making kit. I usually can do at least 3 cards in an hour, but thanks to some Copic coloring and watercoloring, I only managed 2 this time.

For my first card I used the small popsicles and stamped in alternating directions. I colored these with Copics – I love doing this kind of coloring – nothing technical, just relaxing. I cut out a strip of blue cardstock from one of the patterned papers in the kit and adhered this entire strip to a white card base. I stamped the sentiment, trimmed it into a banner and adhered it, along with the chipboard hearts, with foam adhesive.
For my second card I did some very messy and loose watercoloring using Distress Markers. I love these 3 images paired with this great sentiment – I thought this would make a good masculine card.
Thank you so much for joining me for this 1 hour challenge – if you feel inspired to give this a try, be sure to link up your post below so I can check it out!

1 Hour Challenge

Hello! I’m back today with another 1 hour challenge – this time I am working with the Simon Says Stamp July Card Kit. You can see a previous 1 hour challenge using Studio Calico Penny Arcarde here. I love the Simon Says Stamp card kits – the stamp sets are always adorable and the mix of papers and embellishments is great – for an amazing price!

I did struggle a little bit with this kit for some reason – colors I’m not used to working with, maybe? Even though these are not my favorite cards of all time, I thought I would still share them. I think this 1 hour challenge is so much fun and great way to use up your kits as opposed to simply admiring them! So here goes – managed these 4 cards within the 1 hour.

For the first card, I focused on the sweet patterned papers – loved these ones in particular, especially with the kraft base –
Next up, some masking with those adorable envelope stamps –
A simple layout to let the gorgeous sentiment stamp shine –
A bolder card featuring graphic paper. I also wanted the sentiment to be the star of the show here – it pops with white embossing powder.
That is all for me today – I would love to see what you come up with if you give yourself the same challenge – include a link in the comments and I will be sure to stop by!

Color Me Happy

I love Pinterest. I’m a relatively avid pinner, happily collecting boards of DIY, recipes, card inspiration, color combinations and more. But, after hours get sucked away into the time warp that is Pinterest, what then? Its an amazing site, but a total trap as well. I have recently made an effort to do more with my pins – cook the recipes, do the DIYs – I even have friends who host Pinterest Parties making creations they find on the site.

I have decided to start a new series using the color combinations I pin endlessly to inspire some new creations. I love color – I love fearless combos, pleasing pairings, rainbows. I am always looking for new combinations and how those matches could spark something new in my creativity. This was fun – I highly recommend it. Here is my first experiment.

Here was the color combination
I pulled some coordinating papers, patterned papers and ink to get things going.

I decided to start off with some navy cards -
This card uses the Simon Says Stamp Lots of Dots set – a really set this one! And the gorgeous Alte New Magnolias for Her set – love those gorgeous blooms. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Greetings. The card is cut to 4″ wide to allow for the banner & flower hanging off the edge.
A super simple one using some leftover Studio Calico goodies and some fun patterned paper.
Next, I got inky with a Simon Says Stamp diagonal stripe stencil and one of my all time favorite floral stamp sets.
Lastly, one of my favorite layouts – the perfect way to show off gorgeous patterned paper and a big sentiment.

That is all for this instalment of Color Me Happy – I hope you’re inspired to do something with all your pins! Thanks for stopping by!

Wish List Wednesday

There are so many things on my crafty wish list right now – how about you? Here is what I’m wishing would magically appear on my doorstep (can someone please let my husband know this very handy gift list was posted?).

I love this stamp and die from Studio Calico. Truth be told, I have already preordered this, so no need to send this to me if you were considering it ;-)

Next up, the Notes & Things collection from Crate Paper. All of it. Every single item. Here are some of my favorites – swoon.

Next up, the fun new release at Simon Says Stamp. I love the Enjoy the Journey set for Project Life & scrapbooking.
And the stencil set? Yes, please.
And the Keep Swimming set is adorable. I think I will love this for kid’s cards and card making kits geared at a younger audience.

I loved the new release from Alte New. The Sketchy Flowers Rose – total stunner.

How about those Clearly Besotted Stamps that I have had my eye on for awhile? First up, Fresh Flowers. This set is just stunning – I think it is time to take the plunge and order it.

From their latest release – I love the Simply Quilled set – this is really something different to add to the stamping arsenal.

Lastly, I have a confession. I have a serious addiction to ink. I own just about every ink pad from every major manufacturer. And I can’t stop. There is something about a new ink pad – the color, the juiciness, the endless possibilities offered by such a simple little rectangle! I love all the Hero Arts inks – I probably reach for them first, followed closely by Papertrey Ink & Simon Says Stamp.
But, I have been wanting to try the WPlus9 collection for a long time – I think the colors are so appealing. I think I will put the original collection & the new colors on my birthday wish list next month.

Ok, that just about does it – and would definitely do it for my wallet for a long time!

A Moxie Fab Thanks

Hey and welcome to a very special day on the old blog. We are honoring Cath Edvalson, the Trends Editor of Paper Crafts Magazine and the mastermind of Moxie Fab World.

Cath has touched the lives of so many of us bloggers. For me personally, the content and challenges on the Moxie Fab blog have pushed me as a card maker – from inspirational photos to challenges that push my comfort zone – Cath has definitely helped me on my artistic path. I remember the first time one of my cards was ‘spotted’ by Cath and featured on the Moxie Fab blog through a link in her post – I was beyond excited. To think that she even had seen my blog was so exciting! I had the opportunity to meet her – albeit briefly – at CHA in Chicago in 2011. She was walking around with Susan Opel and they both offered words of encouragement for me to continue submitting work to Paper Crafts Magazine. That conversation has stayed with me until now and serves as a reminder if I ever feel frustrated. Cath is such a kind, positive and genuine person – I am grateful to have been touched by her Moxie Fabness.

Now, this is one huge blog hop to celebrate – I think the list is well over 200 participants. You should have arrived here from the blog of Therese Calvird and your next stop is Frances Byrne. If you get lost along the way – please stop by Moxie Fab World for the complete list or see the entire list below.

10 Minute Craft Dash #29

Hey friends! First Wednesday of the month and that means time for another 10 Minute Craft Dash! Woohoo! The challenge today is Feature Buttons and we are joined by the fabulous Denami Design for a great prize!

Today’s challenge was a nice change from the color challenges (not that they aren’t fun!) and everyone has buttons in their stash, so be sure to play along. The possibilities are endless – especially for Christmas. And, making 10 minute cards for Christmas is a must during this busy month!

This card uses some Jillibean Soup woodgrain buttons I’ve been hoarding for a long time, a lovely sentiment sent from Simon Says Stamp, Simple Stories paper and an adorable woodblock Hero Arts stamp set.  The card took me 9 min 54 seconds – the little details like the orange pinked border strip and the bow always take me longer than I think they will – this one was tight!

Thanks for stopping by & be sure to check out all the beautiful DT creations and play along!

A Blog Named Hero challenge – Victorious Vellum

Hey there!

Today is my last guest post at A Blog Named Hero – it has been great to be a guest – such great girls full of inspiration! I’m sharing a card for the new challenge – to use vellum. Vellum is definitely the come-back kid of 2013! I used vellum back in the day when I started scrapbooking, but it started gathering dust until recently.

I colored the vellum with Copics and punched out circles. Because the vellum is colored, I was able to run it through a Zyron without the adhesive showing through. I added a stamped sentiment, patterned paper and stapled on some twine. This is a super easy card and gets you a lot more mileage from clear vellum.
Make sure to check out the rest of the DT inspiration and join in the fun. There is a great Simon Says Stamp gift certificate up for grabs too!

10 Minute Craft Dash #22

Hey friends! Hope you’re having a great week. I got back late last night from a short vacation. It was nice to be away, but I have a mountain of laundry, so gotta keep this short!

Today is the start of another 10 Minute Craft Dash. We have a great sponsor & prize – $25 gift certificate from Paper Sweeties! The colors are gorgeous as well so I’m sure you won’t have any trouble whipping up a beauty!

My card took me 9 min 43 seconds – even when I think I’m going to make it with plenty of time something always stumps me at the end – this time it was the pearls! Still not sure they’re in the right place ;-)

Make sure to head over to Pretty Pink Posh for all the challenge details & all the DT inspiration.
