1 Hour Challenge – Simon Says Stamp August Card Kit

Hello friends! Apologies for the absence here. Life is crazy to say the least. I can finally share some news that we are expecting baby #2 in February. We had fertility issues this time around as I found out I have Polycystic Ovaries. It was a hard road and we are thrilled to have another little one on the way. The first trimester was tough and hasn’t let up much yet – still exhausted and sick – and it is much harder when you are chasing around a 2 year old! So card making, scrapbooking and most of my other chores around the house have taken a major backseat!

But, today I am here to share another instalment of the 1 hour challenge – this time I’m working with the bright & cheerful Simon Says Stamp August card making kit. I usually can do at least 3 cards in an hour, but thanks to some Copic coloring and watercoloring, I only managed 2 this time.

AugCollage
For my first card I used the small popsicles and stamped in alternating directions. I colored these with Copics – I love doing this kind of coloring – nothing technical, just relaxing. I cut out a strip of blue cardstock from one of the patterned papers in the kit and adhered this entire strip to a white card base. I stamped the sentiment, trimmed it into a banner and adhered it, along with the chipboard hearts, with foam adhesive.

For my second card I did some very messy and loose watercoloring using Distress Markers. I love these 3 images paired with this great sentiment – I thought this would make a good masculine card.

1 Hour Challenge

Hello! I’m back today with another 1 hour challenge – this time I am working with the Simon Says Stamp July Card Kit. You can see a previous 1 hour challenge using Studio Calico Penny Arcarde here. I love the Simon Says Stamp card kits – the stamp sets are always adorable and the mix of papers and embellishments is great – for an amazing price!

I did struggle a little bit with this kit for some reason – colors I’m not used to working with, maybe? Even though these are not my favorite cards of all time, I thought I would still share them. I think this 1 hour challenge is so much fun and great way to use up your kits as opposed to simply admiring them! So here goes – managed these 4 cards within the 1 hour.

For the first card, I focused on the sweet patterned papers – loved these ones in particular, especially with the kraft base –

Next up, some masking with those adorable envelope stamps –

A bolder card featuring graphic paper. I also wanted the sentiment to be the star of the show here – it pops with white embossing powder.

That is all for me today – I would love to see what you come up with if you give yourself the same challenge – include a link in the comments and I will be sure to stop by!

Simon Says Stamp April Card Kit

This week was busy for my mail man – on Tuesday I received my March Simon Says Stamp card kit & on Wednesday my April one showed up as well. Oh happy days! I love the April kit – blacks & brights is a favorite of mine. And the April stamp set is adorable – not my usual style maybe, but really cute. I can’t wait to play with this kit more, but I turned out these cards yesterday.

This first card is for the current sketch at Case this Sketch – getting in just under the wire!

For both of these cards I used the Hero Art’s Lemon Yellow Paint Dauber to paint in the lightbulb – I did it a little imperfect on purpose – thought it added to the whimsical look of these cards.
I set my time for 45 minutes to play with this kit – I’ve been doing this lately as I’m always curious how long it takes me to craft. I ended up finishing these in about an hour. That seems so long to me – how long would 2 cards to you? I am so curious! I am going to try to plan ahead of crafting time a bit more – sketching, color schemes, etc. I don’t have a lot of time to actually create stuff and I feel like I mull over every last thing – so frustrating!
Ok, that is all for now – little one will be up any minute from nap time! Have a great day!

Simon Says Stamp Card Kit challenge

So, today is all about the February Simon Says Stamp card kit. I love these kits, but always feel a little disappointed that I don’t make more with them.

I set myself a goal to see how many cards I could make in 45 minutes – time is precious around here! Turns out – not that many. I completed one, and made decent progress on 2 others. Within an hour & a half I had 3 done. I assumed I would make at least 3-4 within 45 minutes, so it was a little bit of a reality check to see how much time I actually need to make something. Something to work on I suppose!

Thankful

I think I’ll give myself this challenge again sometime soon with a past Studio Calico kit that I haven’t put to good use. It is a useful exercise in pushing yourself to really create with the kits – a lot of the time I just absorb the materials into my stash :-)
Thanks for visiting & have a great day!

Watercolor Wonder

So, I’m very happy about the watercolor trend coming & staying – I love the look – adore it, really. One frustrating thing about this whole trend – I am terrible at doing it! Horrible actually. I try over & over again to achieve beautiful watercolor backgrounds, but it just isn’t happening for me – even with the very user-friendly Distress Markers. But, alas, I am not giving up. Be prepared to see some botched efforts on here over the next few weeks ;-)

Anyway, when I saw the new watercolor challenge over at the lovely Virginia’s blog, I thought I’d play along. After ruining about 4 sheets of watercolor paper, I finally resigned myself to some watercolor stamping to get the card done as I was ready to pull my hair out.

I used the sketch from Case this Sketch and some of the gorgeous goodies from the February Simon Says Stamp kit – I love that sentiment! I toned down the patterned paper a little with some white ink splatters & a few swipes with the Hero Arts white dauber.
I also tried out my new DSLR camera for the photo – I have NO idea how to use it!

Simon Says Stamp November Card Kit

Another weekend come & gone….so sad! I didn’t get much crafty time this weekend, but did have a chance to whip up 2 quick cards with the November Simon Says Stamp Card Kit.

I love these kits, but don’t have a chance to use up all the goodies nearly as quickly as I’d like. I’m now trying to create at least 3-4 cards from the kit before I integrate the supplies into the rest of my stash. Anyway, I digress. Onto the cards…
