Watercolor with Reinkers

A very quick post today – things are busy around here as we gear up for a weekend away and struggle through rainy weather and no child care!

I made this for a friend yesterday – they just had a baby and I knew she’d appreciate this sentiment, which I absolutely adore.

Watercolor Nursery Deco
I used Mama Elephant Nursery Deco for those cute animals and messily scribbled first with water and then dropped some reinkers onto the watercolor paper. Using a wet brush, I moved around the ink – such a fun and loose way to add watercolor – one of my favorite methods. The outline of the animals disappeared a little under the bright colors so I went over the outline with a gel pen – the result isn’t quite as perfect as I like, but does add to the ‘handmade’ feel of the card.
Ok, that is all for me today. Thanks for stopping by & have a great day!

True Friend

So, I have had this Mama Elephant stamp set sitting in my ‘to be inked’ pile for a LONG time. I love the set, just never seemed to get around to using it for some reason. I finally inked it up & it didn’t disappoint! I love the gorgeous tree & the sentiment is really heartfelt.

I saw the inspiration photo for the current Mama Elephant challenge and knew I wanted to use the tree and play on the colors in the challenge for my watercolor background. The little butterfly is die cut from 3 pieces of vellum and colored on the back with various shades of blue and green and stapled in the center – it has really nice dimension and pulls all the colors together nicely. Bonus – it hides a tiny spot of not-so-perfect embossing!

For the love of feathers

So, I was a little late to the game with the feather trend – and I’m still unsure about it sometimes – but, I’m going for it anyway. I do love what people do with feathers on their cards & projects…it is just in the back of my mind I always picture dirty pigeon feathers and my mom yelling “don’t touch that!”. Guess some things just stick, right?! Anyway, I digress – onto today’s card.

This card is for the current Mama Elephant challenge – I loved the pinks & silver so that was my starting point. I think the ethereal look of the Maggie Holmes Flea Maket Project Life card worked perfectly with the inspiration picture & as mentioned above, I finally purchased some feathery goodness. I used this amazing silver Sharpie to add some metallic details.
Thanks for stopping by & have a great night!

Be You

Hey friends!

Popping in to share a very quick card today – lots to do in the final week before vacation! Haven’t even thought about packing the little one or myself! Had very big ambitions to wrap up 2013 with an onslaught of crafting & organization, but alas a never-ending cold is thwarting all my efforts.

I did have a chance to play over the weekend – made this cheerful card using the Mama Elephant Be You stamp set. I bought this to use on my Project Life, but happy to put it to use on a card as well. Lots of other mixed stuff going on here – a 3×4 journal card from Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste PL Mini Kit, Heidi Swapp papers and some Studio Calico embellishments.

For the stamped focal point, I first stamped it on the journaling card in a bronze pigment ink. I then stamped it again with a charcoal ink, cut it out and stitched it over the first stamped it, offset slightly.
Ok, that is all for me today! Thanks so much for stopping by – really appreciate it!
