Hero Arts challenge – 1 layer card

Hello again! I hope your week is off to a good start – it is a busy one around here. Trying to stay occupied with daycare closed and rainy days – not the easiest combo with a little guy who likes to constantly be out & about!

I have a quick one layer card to share today for the Hero Arts one layer card challenge. I really love one layer cards – sending mail from Switzerland is really pricey and nice flat cards come in very handy. I often use stamp layering on a one layer card to create the appearance of depth. Elements like ink splatters, large sentiments and rounded corners also help a lot to achieve a cohesive look in a single layer.

I used a new favorite color combo on this card – Lemon Yellow, Butter Bar and Dark Quartz – love how these worked together.
Thanks so much for stopping by today – I really appreciate it!

Color Me Happy

I love Pinterest. I’m a relatively avid pinner, happily collecting boards of DIY, recipes, card inspiration, color combinations and more. But, after hours get sucked away into the time warp that is Pinterest, what then? Its an amazing site, but a total trap as well. I have recently made an effort to do more with my pins – cook the recipes, do the DIYs – I even have friends who host Pinterest Parties making creations they find on the site.

I have decided to start a new series using the color combinations I pin endlessly to inspire some new creations. I love color – I love fearless combos, pleasing pairings, rainbows. I am always looking for new combinations and how those matches could spark something new in my creativity. This was fun – I highly recommend it. Here is my first experiment.

Here was the color combination
I pulled some coordinating papers, patterned papers and ink to get things going.

I decided to start off with some navy cards -
Flowerduo
This card uses the Simon Says Stamp Lots of Dots set – a really set this one! And the gorgeous Alte New Magnolias for Her set – love those gorgeous blooms. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Greetings. The card is cut to 4″ wide to allow for the banner & flower hanging off the edge.

A super simple one using some leftover Studio Calico goodies and some fun patterned paper.
Next, I got inky with a Simon Says Stamp diagonal stripe stencil and one of my all time favorite floral stamp sets.

Lastly, one of my favorite layouts – the perfect way to show off gorgeous patterned paper and a big sentiment.

Incredible

That is all for this instalment of Color Me Happy – I hope you’re inspired to do something with all your pins! Thanks for stopping by!

The little things…

LittleThings

Another Hero Arts card today – with a watercolored background using ink daubers. I layered some colors onto my acyclic block – some pastels with bright colors – spritzed with water and smooshed around the tag with the heat embossed flower. Even though this technique really couldn’t be easier, it does take a little practice to avoid getting muddy colors – I find it the case especially when there is green in the mix.

This is another one for the Hero Arts sketch challenge – I chose the same design (again!) and this time flipped it horizontal.

Hello, Friend

Hello from sunny Tel Aviv! We are here for 10 days visiting my in-laws. Lots of sun & sand for us right now – and a few fleeting minutes on the computer during nap time! I made a few cards before I left so I thought I’d share one of those today.

Hello,friend
This is another one for the Hero Arts sketch challenge – each time I went to make a card for the challenge I thought I might choose a different sketch, but kept going back to the same one – it is definitely the design that feels most natural for me. I did some multi-color inking on the feather and the watercolor strip is something I saved from another project – I never throw anything away (you’d believe me if you saw my office!). I am loving the bright colors with pops of gold.
Thanks for stopping by today – back soon with some more watercolor cards!

Bold & Bright Watercolor

Morning blog friends. Can’t believe it is already April 27th – seriously, where does time go? Nearly May. Just crazy.

I am stopping in for a very quick post this morning to share a card I made for the current Case this Sketch/Runway Inspired challenge. I loved the inspiration photos & the sketch. I was also inspired by this Donna Mikasa card – she is definitely one of my ‘muse’s’ and I chose this card for its angles, complemented by a gorgeous watercolor floral image – I am also entering this for the Case Study DT search.

You made my day

Owl Cuteness

Hey friends. What a whirlwind week for me. Last night was the Passover seder, so there was a lot to prepare. We had a great time celebrating with some friends here. And today is all about appointments – hair cut, that sort of thing – and tomorrow, off to London for a week! Haven’t packed a thing & to do list is a mile long before we head off, but that is just life lately!

Onto today’s card. I saw the stencil challenge at Virginia’s View and knew I wanted to play along. I have gained quite the collection of stencils in the last few months and don’t put them to good use often enough. I also love embossing paste, but never get around to using it – what a cool medium though! Love what you can achieve with it.

MissingYou

For this card, I used a Heidi Swapp star/heart stencil to create the cascading stars. I tinted the embossing paste yellow with a Papertrey Ink re-inker. I chose the dark grey cardstock to create a nighttime feel for my little owl. I did cover the stars with Wink of Stella, but it is very hard to see on the pictures – in real life it has just a touch of sparkle though.

Thanks so much for visiting today & have a great week!

Hello!

Hey friends. A super quick post tonight – its 9pm and we haven’t even gotten around to dinner here, so going to keep this quick! I made a card for the current Case this Sketch challenge.

Hello_splatters

I kept is simple with a stamped background and layering my ink splatter stamps directly on top on the background, along with a few real ink splatters to give it a more cohesive look. I die cut ‘hello’ 4 times to create some dimension without bothering with foam adhesive. Some sequins and voila!

Thanks for visiting & have a great day!

Watercolor Wonder

So, I’m very happy about the watercolor trend coming & staying – I love the look – adore it, really. One frustrating thing about this whole trend – I am terrible at doing it! Horrible actually. I try over & over again to achieve beautiful watercolor backgrounds, but it just isn’t happening for me – even with the very user-friendly Distress Markers. But, alas, I am not giving up. Be prepared to see some botched efforts on here over the next few weeks ;-)

Anyway, when I saw the new watercolor challenge over at the lovely Virginia’s blog, I thought I’d play along. After ruining about 4 sheets of watercolor paper, I finally resigned myself to some watercolor stamping to get the card done as I was ready to pull my hair out.

12.3.14
I used the sketch from Case this Sketch and some of the gorgeous goodies from the February Simon Says Stamp kit – I love that sentiment! I toned down the patterned paper a little with some white ink splatters & a few swipes with the Hero Arts white dauber.
I also tried out my new DSLR camera for the photo – I have NO idea how to use it!

This tag uses the color combo of Papertrey Ink Ocean Tides + White. I rarely reach for Ocean Tides, but whenever I do I am so happy I did – it really is a pretty color!
