Color Me Happy

I love Pinterest. I’m a relatively avid pinner, happily collecting boards of DIY, recipes, card inspiration, color combinations and more. But, after hours get sucked away into the time warp that is Pinterest, what then? Its an amazing site, but a total trap as well. I have recently made an effort to do more with my pins – cook the recipes, do the DIYs – I even have friends who host Pinterest Parties making creations they find on the site.

I have decided to start a new series using the color combinations I pin endlessly to inspire some new creations. I love color – I love fearless combos, pleasing pairings, rainbows. I am always looking for new combinations and how those matches could spark something new in my creativity. This was fun – I highly recommend it. Here is my first experiment.

Here was the color combination
I pulled some coordinating papers, patterned papers and ink to get things going.

I decided to start off with some navy cards -
Flowerduo
This card uses the Simon Says Stamp Lots of Dots set – a really set this one! And the gorgeous Alte New Magnolias for Her set – love those gorgeous blooms. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Greetings. The card is cut to 4″ wide to allow for the banner & flower hanging off the edge.

A super simple one using some leftover Studio Calico goodies and some fun patterned paper.
Next, I got inky with a Simon Says Stamp diagonal stripe stencil and one of my all time favorite floral stamp sets.

Lastly, one of my favorite layouts – the perfect way to show off gorgeous patterned paper and a big sentiment.

Incredible

That is all for this instalment of Color Me Happy – I hope you’re inspired to do something with all your pins! Thanks for stopping by!

Getting my watercolor on

Hey friends!

Yesterday I posted some photos of the gorgeous flowers I saw during a stroll through a fresh flower market in central Zurich. I really adore flowers. I am actually considering trying to get some part-time work in a florist to try to learn the trick to floral arranging – I think I would love it.  Even though I was most smitten yesterday with all the huge, blossoming Peonies, I was particularly taken with some mutli-colored roses.

Roses
Using this pictures as an inspiration, I did a little watercoloring with one of my favorite stamps of all time, Papertey Ink Year of Flowers: Roses. I didn’t worry too much (ok, at all!) about shading – I just had fun mixing up colors and doing some quick & easy coloring.

I didn’t get quite the perfect color match as the stunning roses from the market – I stuck with more oranges than pinks, but I like the result all the same. And heat embossing the image makes it so easy to stay in the lines. There is something so relaxing about coloring – this sort of project reminds me of the coloring books from my youth (albeit with slightly less gorgeous images!). Maybe that is why I like this card-making stuff so much – in essence, it is just a grown-up coloring book!
Ok crafty friends – lots to accomplish before calling it a night, so signing off! Thanks for stopping by – I really appreciate it!

Paper Smooches Designer Drafts

Well, today is a super sad day for me – my last day as a member of the Sparks Design Team. I have loved to be part of this great group – such inspiring artists working with such amazing products. It has been a real pleasure & I can’t wait to play along now that my term is ending :-)

Ok, onto today’s card – this week is Designer Drafts – it took me a few minutes to find my groove with this sketch, but I think I got there in the end!

Paper Smooches Celebrate

I used Calico & Bold Buzzwords for the focal panel. The vellum is held in place with a strip of stitched washi tape.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and definitely make sure to check out all the amazing creations from the design team this week and wish everyone well for their last week!

Paper Smooches Sparks Anything Goes

Hey Paper Smooches fans! A fun new challenge for today and the holiday weekend – it is Anything Goes time! So, no excuses – get in that craft room & ink up some Paper Smooches and share your creative creations with us – we love to see them!

I wanted to do something super simple for my card today. I think it can be easy to get carried away sometimes with all the products, clever die-cutting, etc. And, whilst I love all that, I felt the need to just let the lovely images from Botanicals 2 shine with some generational stamping. This is quite easily one of my favorite leaf & floral sets ever – I just adore it. The sentiment is from another great set – Salutations.

Watercolor Wonder

So, I’m very happy about the watercolor trend coming & staying – I love the look – adore it, really. One frustrating thing about this whole trend – I am terrible at doing it! Horrible actually. I try over & over again to achieve beautiful watercolor backgrounds, but it just isn’t happening for me – even with the very user-friendly Distress Markers. But, alas, I am not giving up. Be prepared to see some botched efforts on here over the next few weeks ;-)

Anyway, when I saw the new watercolor challenge over at the lovely Virginia’s blog, I thought I’d play along. After ruining about 4 sheets of watercolor paper, I finally resigned myself to some watercolor stamping to get the card done as I was ready to pull my hair out.

12.3.14
I used the sketch from Case this Sketch and some of the gorgeous goodies from the February Simon Says Stamp kit – I love that sentiment! I toned down the patterned paper a little with some white ink splatters & a few swipes with the Hero Arts white dauber.
I also tried out my new DSLR camera for the photo – I have NO idea how to use it!

Hugs

Hey everyone! I’m sure everyone is so busy now that the holidays are nearly here. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by the ‘ol blog ;-)

AE_Hugs

Just a quick card to share today. I made this card for the current Avery Elle challenge. I recently got lots of new Avery Elle stamps so the challenge was the perfect kick I needed to put them to good use. This card is a little busier than the cards I’ve been doing lately, but I love all the gorgeous papers from the Crate Paper Close Knit line – so yummy!

Now that I’ve been looking at this card, I think it needed 1 more flower on the right side of the arrangement, but too late now! This Laurel set is a lot of fun to play with! Here is the sketch for the challenge:

Alright, that is all today! Thanks so very much for stopping by!

Fresh Cut Florals

Hello again! So, I’m a bit late to the WPlus9 Fresh Cut Florals party – it sold out so quickly I wasn’t able to get my set until pretty recently. The set is absolutely gorgeous, but I have to admit I am finding it a little tricky to line up the flowers & dies. And the hyacinth – definitely not perfect – but, working on it!

I made this card for the WPlus9 Monday Mood Board & Case this sketch challenges. Happy I finally got a chance to ink up the set – can’t wait to play more!

Thanks for stopping by & have a great weekend!

10 Minute Craft Dash #22

RI#23

Hey friends! Hope you’re having a great week. I got back late last night from a short vacation. It was nice to be away, but I have a mountain of laundry, so gotta keep this short!

Today is the start of another 10 Minute Craft Dash. We have a great sponsor & prize – $25 gift certificate from Paper Sweeties! The colors are gorgeous as well so I’m sure you won’t have any trouble whipping up a beauty!

My card took me 9 min 43 seconds – even when I think I’m going to make it with plenty of time something always stumps me at the end – this time it was the pearls! Still not sure they’re in the right place ;-)

Make sure to head over to Pretty Pink Posh for all the challenge details & all the DT inspiration.

A Blog Named Hero July Challenge

Hey! Back today with another A Blog Named Hero guest post. Today is their new challenge – inspired by a Hero Arts artist. No problem there – their design team has all my faves – Lisa Spangler, Lucy Abrams, Jennifer McGuire & more! I chose Jennifer McGuire – she is so talented and such a sweet person too – I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 years ago at CHA.

Anyway, I love all her watercolor projects – I was inspired by the watercolor background of this project and used that as my jumping off point.

This challenge is sponsored by the oh-so-generous Simon Says Stamp – they’re offering a $25 Gift Certificate to the winner – yay!
Make sure to visit A Blog Named Hero for all the challenge details & be sure to play along!
